Vulnerability Details CVE-ID: CVE-2014-0160 DESCRIPTION: OpenSSL could allow a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information. This is caused by an error in the TLS/DTLS heartbeat functionality. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to expose 64k of private memory and retrieve secret keys. An attacker can repeatedly expose additional 64k chunks of memory. This vulnerability can be remotely exploited, authentication is not required and the exploit is not complex. An exploit can only partially affect the confidentially, but not integrity or availability. CVSS Base Score: 5 CVSS Temporal Score: See http://xforce.iss.net/xforce/xfdb/92322 CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined CVSS Vector: (AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:N/A:N) Warning: We strongly encourage you to take action as soon as possible as potential implications to your environment may be more serious than indicated by the CVSS score. CVE-ID: CVE-2014-0076 DESCRIPTION: OpenSSL could allow a local attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by an implementation error in ECDSA (Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm). An attacker could exploit this vulnerability using the FLUSH+RELOAD cache side-channel attack to recover ECDSA nonces. This vulnerability can only be exploited locally, authentication is not required and the exploit is not complex. An exploit can only partially affect confidentially, but not integrity or availability. CVSS Base Score: 2.1 CVSS Temporal Score: See http://xforce.iss.net/xforce/xfdb/91990 CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined CVSS Vector: (AV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:N/A:N) Affected Products and Versions Tivoli Storage Productivity Center 5.2.0 through 5.2.1.0 Tivoli Storage Productivity Center 5.1.0 through 5.1.1.3 Tivoli Storage Productivity Center 4.2.2.143 (FP3) through 4.2.2.177 The versions listed above apply to all licensed offerings of Tivoli Storage Productivity Center, including IBM SmartCloud Virtual Storage Center Storage Analytics Engine. System Storage Productivity Center is affected if it has been upgraded with one of the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center versions listed above. The following are not affected and do not require an update: Tivoli Storage Productivity Center 4.2.0 through 4.2.2.119 (FP2) Tivoli Storage Productivity Center 4.1.x Tivoli Storage Productivity Center for Replication - all versions Remediation/Fixes Affected TPC Version APAR Fixed TPC Version Availability 5.2.x IT01003 5.2.1.1* applied on top of 5.2.1.0 April 2014 5.1.x IT01003 5.1.1.4* applied on top of 5.1.1.3 April 2014 4.x IT01002 4.2.2.178* (FP6) applied on top of 4.2.2.170 (FP4) April 2014 * The fix packages provided are not full installation images. You may need to upgrade to a newer level before applying this fix. See Latest Downloads to find all of the fixes. How to apply the Tivoli Storage Productivity fix packs After upgrading the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center server to the fixed version, you must also upgrade your Storage Resource agents. In the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center GUI, all existing agents will be marked as "Upgrade needed". Follow the normal Storage Resource agent upgrade procedure, as documented in the Information Center, to deploy the new compliant Storage Resource agents. Once the Storage Resource agents have been upgraded, they will resume showing their running state, i.e. "Up". The following additional steps are provided to resolve potential implications to the environment from exposure to CVE -2014-0160. They should not be done until the fix mentioned above has been applied. 1) Replace your SSL Certificates. You need to revoke existing SSL certificates and reissue new certificates. You need to be sure not to generate the new certificates using the old private key and create a new private key (ie using "openssl genrsa") and use that new private key to create the new certificate signing request (CSR). 2) Reset User Credentials Users of network facing applications protected by a vulnerable version of OpenSSL should be forced to reset their passwords and should revoke any authentication or session related cookies set prior to the time OpenSSL was upgraded and force the user to re-authenticate. Warning: Your environment may require additional fixes for other products, including non-IBM products. Please replace the SSL certificates and reset the user credentials after applying the necessary fixes to your environment. Workarounds and Mitigations If you cannot apply the fix provided, you can mitigate exposure with the following actions in Tivoli Storage Productivity Center: *Stop or disable all Storage Resource agents. *Remove connections to all XIV storage subsystems. Note: You should also reset the user credentials for that XIV storage subsystem. Important note IBM strongly suggests that all System z customers be subscribed to the System z Security Portal to receive the latest critical System z security and integrity service. If you are not subscribed, see the instructions on the System z Security web site. Security and integrity APARs and associated fixes will be posted to this portal. IBM suggests reviewing the CVSS scores and applying all security or integrity fixes as soon as possible to minimize any potential risk.
