(CVE-2015-7450)

Vulnerability Details

An Apache Commons Collections vulnerability for handling Java object
deserialization was addressed by IBM WebSphere Portal Server.

CVEID: CVE-2015-7450

DESCRIPTION: Apache Commons Collections could allow a remote attacker to
execute arbitrary code on the system, caused by the deserialization of data
with Java InvokerTransformer class. By sending specially crafted data, an
attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary Java code on
the system.

CVSS Base Score: 9.8

version of the product.

Remediation/Fixes

To remediate this vulnerability you need to apply fixes for both IBM WebSphere
Application Server and IBM WebSphere Portal Server.

For IBM WebSphere Application Server updates refer to this bulletin:

Security Bulletin: Vulnerability in Apache Commons affects IBM WebSphere
Application Server (CVE-2015-7450)

For IBM WebSphere Portal Server apply the fixes PI52627, PI52647, PI52821,

IBM recommends that you review your entire environment to identify vulnerable
releases of the open-source Apache Commons Collections and take appropriate
mitigation and remediation actions.

Note on IBM-supplied Struts Portlet Frameworks

The IBM-supplied Struts Portlet Frameworks (both legacy IBM proprietary API
and the more recent JSR-168 Standard API versions) are no longer supported.
The above fixes will not perform any upgrade to these frameworks. If you are
still using the IBM-supplied Struts Portlet framework in any way, including
using custom portlets developed based on the samples, you should investigate
the portlets and manually upgrade the Apache Commons Collections jars that may
be part of the portlets and/or framework to version 3.2.2 or later, available
from Apache. See
http://commons.apache.org/proper/commons-collections/release_3_2_2.html

Any portlets that you wish to write using Struts should be based directly on
the Apache Struts Portlet support. See the following links:

http://portals.apache.org/bridges/bridges-struts/

https://struts.apache.org/docs/portlet-plugin.html
