When the candidate has been publicized, the details for this candidate will be provided. (CVE-2016-8624) Impact When a domain name ends with a number sign (#), cURL does not parse the authority component of the URL correctly and can be tricked into connecting to a different host. For example: http://f5.com#@example.com/x.txt To exploit this vulnerability, cURL must parse a malformed URL. The BIG-IP system uses cURL/libcurl for IMAP, FTP, POP3, SMTP, Windows WMI, RealServer, and custom external monitors that incorporate cURL. On the BIG-IP system, access to the cURL utility is restricted to locally authenticated users. Security Advisory Status F5 Product Development has assigned ID 655421 (BIG-IP), ID 655675 (BIG-IQ), ID 655804 (F5 iWorkflow), ID 655673 (Enterprise Manager), ID 476510 (ARX), and CPF-23662, CPF-23663, and CPF-23664 (Traffix SDC) to this vulnerability. Additionally, BIG-IP iHealth may list Heuristic H85235351 on the Diagnostics > Identified > Low screen. However, F5 identifies the vulnerability status as Not vulnerable because the attacker cannot exploit the code in default, standard, or recommended configurations. Security Advisory Recommended Actions If you are running a version listed in the Versions known to be vulnerable column, you can eliminate this vulnerability by upgrading to a version listed in the Versions known to be not vulnerable column. If the table lists only an older version than what you are currently running, or does not list a non-vulnerable version, then no upgrade candidate currently exists. To determine the necessary upgrade path for your BIG-IQ system, you should understand the BIG-IQ product offering name changes. For more information, refer to K21232150: Considerations for upgrading BIG-IQ or F5 iWorkflow systems . Mitigation BIG-IP, BIG-IQ, Enterprise Manager, and iWorkflow To mitigate this vulnerability, if feasible, you should avoid using the local cURL utility in scripts and the BIG-IP system's Extended Application Verification (EAV) monitors on the vulnerable system. Additionally, you should only permit access to the system over a secure network and limit login access to trusted users. For more information about securing access to the BIG-IP or Enterprise Manager system, refer to K13092: Overview of securing access to the BIG-IP system. ARX To mitigate this vulnerability, avoid enabling the API functionality.
