The modern cyber world can be dangerous. For many people, business communications and processes are performed via digital mediums (internet, email, applications), which means staff and their employers are exposed to associated threats. The Cyber Security Fundamentals course was created to arm people with fundamental, practical knowledge, enabling them to be safer online and to be โ€˜cyber savvyโ€™. This 3 hour course is delivered in an engaging and informative manner using a variety of learning tools including an online quiz, videos, and small and large group discussions.

Objectives

  • Have fundamental cyber security knowledge they can apply in professional and personal settings to be safer online;
  • understand common cyber security threats and the countermeasures (controls) they can apply to address these threats;
  • understand common examples of behavioural science and be able to apply this knowledge to gain a greater understanding of their own and othersโ€™ decision-making behaviours;
  • feel more confident in their ability to manage cyber security risks and to share their knowledge with colleagues and families;
  • be aware of resources they can access to maintain their awareness of cyber security threats and countermeasures.

    • HTTPS, web browser settings
    • Security on the move and at home
  • Privacy and app security
  • Behavioural science โ€“ how our perceptions of risk effect our behaviour
  • Social engineering exercise

Approach

  • Emphasis is on empowerment of staff and the importance of a shared sense of responsibility for cyber security
  • Provide an introduction to cyber security to suit participants from any background
  • Facilitate opportunities for participants to share experiences and knowledge
  • Relate relevant and pragmatic examples of cyber security threats and countermeasures that anyone can apply
